Apsu Kane was born in the lower slums of Somnara, raised alongside his three older brothers. Orphaned from birth, the Kane boys survived by loyalty, grit, and deep love for each other. Though one brother became entangled with the Chimera Syndicate, the bond between them never wavered — until the night the Syndicate executed all three. Apsu survived only because Eden, his eldest brother, told him to hide.
What followed was grief-driven vengeance. Apsu hunted down every killer, showing them pain in return. But victory brought no peace. Standing alone on a distant beach, Apsu wept, not from rage, but from the weight of finality. He was the last Kane, and once he died, their name would vanish.
In that moment of despair, Tannin — the Dragonlord of Judgment — appeared in the form of a golden eagle. His presence shook the world around Apsu, not in fire or spectacle, but like a distant thunderstorm carrying truth.“You are not alone. You are merely unafraid to stand when others flee.”
Tannin revealed himself as a god who had once been chaos, betrayed by his kin, now reforged into order. He offered Apsu not comfort, but clarity. Not salvation, but purpose.
Apsu became his Champion, not to forget his grief. But to give it meaning.
Training & Service
Before meeting Tannin, Apsu escaped Somnara by joining the Varangir Wardens — a coastal coalition of once-scattered militias turned professional military. Known for recruiting foreigners to avoid local political entanglements, the Wardens taught Apsu discipline and gave him his first taste of unity since his brothers' deaths.
There, he served in river patrols, fought raiders and monsters, and learned what it meant to fight with purpose, not just pain.
Philosophy
Apsu does not burn with rage anymore. He burns with intent. Tannin taught him that justice is not vengeance, and order must be upheld — not inherited. His life's mission is now twofold:
- To enforce judgment, especially in lawless places
- To build a future, including the founding of a new Order of Wyrmknights
He remembers his brothers every day, but now he speaks for them through action. Always living by these words Tannin gave to him:
'You would give your life for your kin. Now live - and give it for the world.’
