Divine Aegis

The Divine Aegis is the guard force that protects the highest authority of the Holy Empire of Acolytius, being the Throne and the Imperial High Council. The Divine Aegis only answers to the Grand Marshal of the High Council or the Throne itself, which is currently Sir Ephraim Jolan and Empress Belivere Valeria. Despite their similar purpose to the Shield Regiment of the Imperial Legions, the Aegis sits within its own sect in the Imperial Military.

Members of the Divine Aegis go through specialized training to fulfill their role, the nature of which is known only by the Grand Marshal. The general public and other high-ranking officials of the nation know nothing about the Aegis, although there have been witnesses who have seen them in action. Aegis guards are said to move with almost blinding speed, with an almost inhuman agility. They strike with incredible precision, disposing of any potential threats within moments. This has led many to theorize that the Aegis has used Magical means to enhance their abilities, but the specifics of those means, if true at all, are unknown.

The Divine Aegis is also known for its use of Conduite, as they use the alloy to make their armor and weapons. The metals used in Conduite are a closely guarded secret, with only the Aegis knowing how to create it. This has led to some additional theories about the Aegis, ranging from there being a skilled blacksmith that works for them or that the Aegis' guards themselves know how to forge it. Regardless, Conduite's incredibly high durability and light weight make it ideal for the Divine Aegis. Each guard wears armor identical in appearance, with the helmet depicting an almost featureless face aside from the eyes. The gauntlets of the armor include built in blades, being attached to a hinge to stow the weapon when it isn't needed. The two gauntlet blades serve as the Aegis' main weapons, which prevent them from being easily disarmed. In addition to the Conduite armor, purple cloaks are worn to further obscure the guards' frames. These outfits, combined with the Aegis' vow of silence, make it impossible for anyone to identify an individual.
