Varani

The Varani are quite large compared to other Lepdo'ami, only being outgrown by the Crokadi. They have tough, leathery scales that protect their tall, often muscular bodies. These scales can be a variety of colors, ranging from browns, blacks, and greens akin to that of the surrounding environment. Some other key traits of their appearance are their large, powerful tails and forked tongues, giving them what many consider to be an intimidating presence. Combined with their sharp claws and serrated teeth, an encounter with the Varani can be very intimidating.

The Varani possess natural venom, which they can use to defend themselves when they lack a weapon. Combined with their powerful strength, it is not uncommon to see a Varani carrying a lot of weight with them while they search for their next battle.

The Varani are different from the other clans of Lepdo'ami due to a nomadic lifestyle, and few Varani tribes ever find a place to settle. Most of their people wander throughout the rainforest in search of resources for the tribe, foraging it from their surroundings or taking it from others. This aggressive lifestyle culminates when a clutch of eggs is on the way, as the women who are gravid are expected to find a suitable Amn'toc even if they must take it by force. For some, they give those who they plan to take from a chance to escape with their lives and eggs, granting them a chance to start again. In some cases, however, Varani tribes will use violence as their first choice and take everything from their foes, even going as far as to devour their unhatched eggs and make space for their own.

To the Varani, the most important quality of the Dragons was their immense strength. As such, they take every opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities and prove themselves to their fellow Varani. This mindset is what fuels their aggressive practices of pillaging and warmongering, and it also leads them to take trophies from many of their battles. Whether they be bones of a mighty beast or the valuables of a rival tribe, seasoned warriors will use these spoils to motivate young Varani to follow in their footsteps, proving themselves and their strength. Those who struggle in this challenge are seen as dead weight by some tribes, being abandoned in the jungle and never seen again.
