Details

All police operation and officers on the Upper Floor are under the command of the Gendarmerie Director, whose office is located in Tuberdam, in the same Capitol building Doctor Reinhardt had built for the Symposium.

Under him there are three Prefects for the Bathroom, Master Bedroom, and Smaller Bedroom, and each of them is tasked to coordinate operations and manage resource in a specific Room.

To be precise, prefects are true public figures with the delicate job of mediating between agents, politics, crime rates, and public opinion, and as such they often are singled out by journalists and writers itching for a juicy investigative report.

While prefects deal more with politics and public life than with field operations, Gendarmerie Commissioners, each responsible for a city on the Upper Floor, are cut from a different cloth entirely. These littlings in their long red coats work tirelessly to manage the many districts of their cities, carrying out the needed inspections, and sometimes even personally taking the lead for extremely tricky or delicate investigations.

The Detectives

The littlings of the Gendarmerie are well trained in all aspects of their duties, including how to follow investigative cases. However, some cases are so full of mystery or so well-executed by bright criminal minds that even these trained agents can’t deal with them. That’s when they make way for even brighter minds, brilliant even.

This is why there are scholars of several calibers who pursue a Detective License and become, for all intents and purposes, civilian associates of the Gendarmerie. Detectives don’t wear a uniform, but they carry a permit from the Director or a flashier badge with the three keys of the Free Dominions.

The Edge Guard

The Edge Guard in Tuberdam is the only military naval force in the Household, and with clear reason, since the Bathtub is the only large body of water within the House.

This historical institution is a branch of the Gendarmerie and, as such, is headed by the same Director, but it is completely autonomous and radically different in all other aspects.

The uniforms of the Edge Guard comprise of fine red tailcoats with large white lapels, tall black boots, and even taller bicorns that betray a greater influence from the Realm.

On dry land, the control of all operations is entrusted to the Port Authority, controlled by the captain of a permanently moored ship that acts as a sort of buoyant office.

Under the captain there are four marshals, each responsible for one side of the Edge of Tuberdam.

The Edge Guard, however, also relies on the crews of several military ships constantly patrolling the waters of the Bathtub, in their eternal fight against smugglers. Each guard, sergeant, or marshal operating on one of these ships is at the orders of a Ship-of-the-line Captain, whose jackets are also black, but are additionally decorated with decorative patterns and gold tabs.
