Kingdom of Ravenna

The Kingdom of Ravenna was originally a colony of an ally of the Kingdom of Falglor, a former mining outpost of The Alammar Empire. Ravenna was founded on land granted to the ally by Falglor. During the Age of Frost, the colony went against their overlord's orders and joined the Coalition of Nations. This led to tensions between the overlord and Ravenna, eventually leading to Ravenna's rebellion. Falglor supplied the former overlords with weapons and money, while The Order helped train and supply the rebels as thanks for helping them during the Age of Frost. Eventually, the overlords grew weary of the costly war, and let Ravenna go.

Ravenna grew and started developing a culture. The king wielded total power, while a light scattering of advisors helped run the kingdom, and a collection of nobles all controlled their own territories. All was (mostly) well until The Cult of Zelial moved into the developing nation. Immediately, things started changing. The already pretty bad crime problem suddenly grew worse, and more coordinated. Bandits moved into the kingdom in droves, disrupting trade and pilfering small villages, gathering into large armies and groups, the most notable one being the Wolf King. The Cult of Zelial set to work assassinating officials and kings. The average lifetime of a king was short, meaning that the family tree was drained dry of legible people to sit on the throne.

Things were absolute chaos until a king eventually used their authority to form The Inquisition. After that, a bloody purge occurred, removing whoever was deemed corrupt in any way. Most were innocent, but the corrupt ones they did get made the overall situation for Ravenna much better. However, afterward, the Inquisition decided it was too good for Ravenna, and declared that they were an independent organization, free of Ravenna's meddling, leading to a giant political clash. After all was said and done, there was still a massive problem that the nation faced, a problem that it would continue to face for centuries. Nobles, bandits, warlords, and other magnates decided that now was their time, taking the opportunity and exploiting Ravenna's weakness, each having their own little petty state in their provinces, beginning an era of warlordism that would last until the modern day.

The king, left politically bankrupt by the power struggle with the Inquisition, returned to find that most of his army had deserted him, his nobles had abandoned him, and that heir was a major crisis facing Ravenna. With no power to do anything, he was helpless to do anything but watch as Ravenna tore itself apart. The continued instability was exploited by other nations, such as Falglor, who were still looking to undermine the Order, and used Ravenna as a proxy, fueling conflict. Other nations, such as Uthan, saw this as an opportunity for higher profits, selling supplies to warlords, gaining both money from weapon sales and lowering crop prices from Ravenna. While notable persons such as Darshi Yaun attempted to bring Ravenna back to it's glory days, it failed in most ways. Their latest embarrassment was their complete failure in the Blood War, being steamrolled by Uthan and The Blood Mages.

The primary export of Ravenna are crops. Ravenna is mostly agricultural, with very few smiths in Ravenna. Those that do exist are mostly commissioned by warlords or ransacked by bandits for gear and precious metals. Ravenna's economy is bust, being completely reliant on foreign imports for most things, with their only saving grace being that Coins are an international currency.

The crime rate in Ravenna is astronomically high. The streets of their cities are practically a warzone, and the countryside is a literal warzone, with warlords and bandits and mercenaries battling it out over insignificant amounts of land. Cities have bottom of the barrel living standards, with the capital city of Ravenna, Ravenna, having nearly half the city be slums. Even in the more "civilized" portions of the city, robberies, corruption, murder, and other unsavory acts are commonplace, often with guards being bribed to turn a blind eye. The king has little to no authority to do anything, the central government being bankrupt, and the army is non-existent. Literally everyone in Ravenna is poor as rocks, and anyone that looks vaguely middle class is immediately robbed blind. If anyone attempts to pack their bags and leave the urban hellscape of Ravenna, they will be immediately accosted by bandits lying in wait.

The judiciary system doesn't exist at all, with most judges being little more than corrupt highwaymen.

Politics of Ravenna

Ravennan politics are an absolutely abysmal mess. Ever since the rise of The Inquisition and The Cult of Zelial in the kingdom, the power of the king has become basically non-existent, with an unruly populace and unwilling governors. The only thing keeping some mildly popular duke from launching a coup against the monarchy is the support of the Inquisition, and the fact no one wants to actually rule the smoldering trash fire that is Ravenna. The king only holds power in the central territories of the nation, the outer provinces are only part of Ravenna in name alone, some small towns going decades with minimal interaction with any sort of government influence.

People have used this to their advantage, trade barons and crime lords taking up border towns as their own, enforcing their illegal rule with mercenaries and paid goons. The government knows about this, but simply isn't strong enough to definitively destroy any of the independent warlords on their own without the others falling upon them like vultures. They do try and attack any warlord that grows too ambitious or too powerful.
