Kanvrak is a fear demon that is contained within the magic shield Mask of Fear, granting it its power as well as its curse. He is capable of seeing and listening through those that hold the shield, as well as speaking through them. Kanvrak is an unnerving individual, and is capable of causing fear to those that gaze upon his shield.

Kanvrak wishes to escape the confinement of his shield into the Material Plane, and has detailed a ritual requiring ten hearts of individuals consumed by hatred to free him. He has tasked the wielder of the shield Ilryn Dewsong with gathering the ritual's components.

Description

Appearance

Kanvrak's face emulates the design of the Mask of Fear; he has six narrow eyes all seated closely together under a heavy brow. Two large horns extend outwards and upwards from his thick head, which is plated with growths of bone all the way down his spine. He has a large mouth with large, sharp teeth and four prominent tusks that protrude from his maw, when when closed. His body is large and well built, with intimidating, muscular arms terminating in black talons and a long tail that ends in a bony spike. He has goat-like, hooved legs, and his bottom half is covered in a black fur, whereas the rest of his body is a thick, dark red hide.

Personality

Kanvrak often plays up the facade of a twisted, creepy demon, but is actually rather down to earth when this guise is dropped. Kanvrak treats his role as a tormentor and a stoker of fears as something of a day job, and views his "work" as transactional. However, he is also somewhat moody and unpredictable at times, and might refuse the use of his powers to a user of his shield on a whim.

Skills and Abilities

Kanvrak is a self-described "fear demon", and seems to be particularly adept at seeding fear in living beings, a power his shield draws upon.

History

In 989 IaC, Kanvrak cursed Ilryn Dewsong when she picked up his shield, putting on his best creepy voice and informing her that he could see through her eyes and hear through her ears. However, he was soon confronted by Ilryn's patron Avra, who put down some ground rules on the use of Ilryn's body. An agreement was reached between the three to release Kanvrak from the shield using a dark ritual so that Ilryn could continue to use its powers without the cursed drawbacks. Kanvrak dropped his guise and treated his relationship with Ilryn and Avra as more of a business opportunity, offering Ilryn his help with the Thin Man, should she need it.
