- The group awakened in Victor's Tavern
- Grognock built a blanket fortress in his room, which tumbles down upon his exit
- The party set out for Nightlurker swarm.
- They encounter a small "camp" set up by the side of the road
- In the camp is Seamus McHammerface, who somehow managed to sleep through the night unscathed
- Seamus recounts how he managed to get there
- An aarakocra courier flew down near the party and hands a letter to Seamus
- The letter is a warning for tax evasion on land owned in Sanaris
- The party encountered a peculiar man sitting at a desk at a crossroads
- A dark black ichor dripped from his mouth as he spoke
- They ignore the man's advice to go right, instead turning left
- The sky began to turn dark as they pushed forward, eventually seeing the dark necromancer's tower before them
- Recognizing that they were in an illusion, the party decided to push forwards and enter the doors of the tower
- Upon making it through, the group ended up where they were before, but the man at the desk was simply a corpse who had been dead for many years
- Seamus left a pea on the desk before the party moved on
- The party arrived in Oldpit, where they were checked by Bart the Guard
- They entered the town, meeting Harkon Endelflask at The Heap, a general store
- Harkon is a meticulous but clumsy gnome that consults his giant ledger for the price and location of every transaction. His store quite literally seems like a heap, but he seems to know where everything is. He often mishears that people wants to buy more than they ask for.
- Grognock buys some jerky, and Seamus buys some thread for his squirrel heads
- Wander buys a farmer's almanac and a large ball of fleece
- Wander also orders the construction of a brass brazier, to be picked up in Madrioc upon his arrival. He puts down a deposit of 4 silver for the order, and will be able to buy it for around 25 gold.
- The party meets Gradgast in the Tulip Inn. They spend some time cooking in the rather meager kitchen, with Wander making many small tarts, Phaelnah cooking up a hearty vegetable stew, and Leadbelly Fargus cooking up his half pound of meat.
- Everyone talked with the villagers in the tavern for a while, and then went to bed in their rather squalid sleeping arrangements
- They entered the town, meeting Harkon Endelflask at The Heap, a general store
- The party set off again to Vardev
- They encountered a small goblin fighting a pack of gnolls on the road, protecting a wagon
- The party helped drive off the gnolls, but Leadbelly lost one of his javelins in the shoulder of a fleeing gnoll
- The goblin, who introduced himself as Giz, thanked the group, and headed off into the forest in the direction of the gnolls
- The party checked up on the wagon, and continued forwards
- The ground set up camp in a field, placing torches around to ward off the nightlurkers
- Journey spent some time in the morning practicing with her whip (+1)
- Wander spent some time foraging, and found 5 purple berries, learning a little more about the area's plants from his almanac (+1)
- Near nightfall, the group makes it to the gates of Vardev, a decently sized city-port (roughly ~200 buildings in the walls)
- A man outside the gates was arguing with a guard, and treated the party with familiarity, claiming that they are the ones he was waiting for
- The group decided to go along with this, barely convincing the guard to let them inside
- The man thanked them, introducing himself as Zhavesh, and offered them a job to help fix a problem in a nearby town
- The group accompanied Zhavesh to the Thurimbane offices, a well-crafted legislative building for the branch of the Miners Guild.
- They met with a dwarf (Gurdo) who outlined their contract, and that Zhavesh (who the dwarf knew as Krel'la Tavesh) had already taken the advance payment of 150 gold. Each member of the party would receive 300 gold on contract completion (for more, see A Man and His Tower)
- Wander attempted to sign a fake name, but the enchanted paper erased the ink as he wrote it
- Journey wished to remove Krill from the contract, but the dwarf lamented over the amount of paperwork and time it would take, also encouraging the group not to kill him, at least not until the contract was finished.
- Leadbelly signed the contract under the party name "Leadbelly and the Peas"
- When Seamus's debt was brought up, Krill wrote something down on a piece of paper. When Journey snatched the paper from his hands, it only had a smiley face on it.
- The party went to find a place to rest, wishing to find where Krill was staying, and "steal his shit".
- Krill led the party to an elven bar (The Tappelini), and began to produce a lot of coin, riling up the patrons of the bar
- Grognock spotted a drow (Xxizt'reskt) in the back corner of the bar, and spoke to her in undercommon. She is a guard in the employ of the Mercenaries Guild.
- Phaelnah was able to use her Detect Magic to see that a magical aura surrounding Krill seemed to grow when the crowd clapped or cheered.
- Wander attempted to steal Krill's pouch, but upon opening it, it was empty, though it still appeared to be full from the outside.
- Krill then led the group to another bar, the Velvet Hat, where he produced more coin and showcased various slight of hand tricks. The crowd in the bar did not seem to care much, so he was eager to move on.
- Journey, Phaelnah, and Kradva decided to buy rooms in the Velvet Hat, and settle in for the night.
- Journey discovered a note in her pocket that said to meet at the east gate in the morning.
- With Leadbelly, Seamus, and Wander, the group moved on to a dwarven tavern, the Iron Spike, then the Dripping Cat, Oflen's Tavern, and Gort's Drink Place.
- At this point, the group was thoroughly inebriated. They lost sight of Krill as he winded quickly around the back alleys.
- In an attempt to find him, Wander cast an illusion into the air of a giant blown up version of Krill's head, asking if "anyone had seen this man"
- After a few fearful passersby ran from the sight, a guard came up to Wander and asked him to dispel the illusion, but as Wander tried to do so, he only succeeded on making it more warped and grotesque.
- The group went back to the Velvet Hat, where Leadbelly got his own room.
- Wander and Seamus went across the way to the Leaky Hose, and fell asleep on one of the tables.
- Krill led the party to an elven bar (The Tappelini), and began to produce a lot of coin, riling up the patrons of the bar
