The Siege of Caedalir

February 16, 2020
  • The Peas began their battle against Arghan, soon discovering that the twins Gresely and Gruggly accompanied him once again
  • As the two parties clashed and Leadbelly, Seamus, Wander, and Tyerjon laid some heavy damage on Arghan, two Wild Children approached the party from the east, while someone fired at Grognock from the southern forest
    • While Grognock mitigated most of the damage by catching the arrows, they were powerful and were capable of dealing heavy damage
  • Arghan scattered the party, and after shrugging off the blindness cast upon him by Phaelnah and some choice words by Journey, Arghan blitzed towards one of the Wildchildren that had fallen on his ass in a stream and decapitated him with 3 swings from his waraxe
    • Journey laid down a Sleet Storm that made a bunch of people fall on their asses
  • As the other Wildchild clashed with Seamus, wanting revenge for his humiliation and the stealing of his sword, guards from the city walls began to yell out warnings about a raid
  • Arghan, thirsty for battle, ran to the city gates to seek out this threat
    • Leadbelly threw a javelin at his back. What a jerk.
    • The twins, having spent most of their time healing Arghan and blessing each other, waddled after him, now out of spells
  • As Grognock finished off the other Wildchild, he spotted Mardyth amongst the trees of the forest, shooting arrows at the party
  • Wander sent Matilda over to the east to investigate the incoming force, but she was killed by an arrow
  • Seamus, Journey and Wander headed after Arghan to meet the incoming goblin raid head on, while Grognock and Phaelnah investigated the woods, looking for Mardyth, who managed to strike Phaelnah with a particularly nasty arrow
    • Tyerjon fell on his ass over and over in the sleet
    • Leadbelly doubled back to protect Phaelnah from Mardyth’s arrows
  • Seamus and Arghan headed right into the invading goblin force, taking heavy damage, but cutting many of them down
    • Wander took a few down with some arrows and dagger strike, as Journey laid down powerful area magic, removing swathes at a time
  • The guards from the city walls couldn’t see into the darkness to strike the invading force, continually missing their marks
  • As the goblin army thinned, Grognock and Tyerjon did battle against Mardyth in the woods
    • Grognock managed to stun the rogue, allowing Tyerjon to tear into him, spilling strange, glowing ichor from his shining wounds.
    • Phaelnah, unsure what to do, headed back to the gates to assist against the goblins, and Leadbelly followed to protect her
  • The group encountered the commanders of the invading force, a hobgoblin and a goblin mage, the latter wielding a staff with a familiar purple crystal
    • As the mage lashed out with powerful lightning magic, the hobgoblin made a beeline towards the city gates
  • Mardyth, having taken heavy damage from Grognock and Tyerjon, began to retreat, eventually resorting to engulfing himself in flames, and flying off into the forest. The two gave chase for a bit, but couldn’t keep up and decided to regroup with the rest
  • Journey was encumbered by the Missim twins, who kept trying to crawl onto her back
  • Phaelnah Channeled Divinity to heal Seamus, but experience an emotion of anger from her goddess as she cast it, suddenly feeling Aeltra’s presence leave her
    • After trying to cast Sacred Flame on the hobgoblin, she realized that Aeltra was no longer providing her with magic
  • The hobgoblin, holding something, ran straight towards the city gate as the party converged on his location
  • With a haunting laugh, the goblin mage struck the hobgoblin with a powerful bolt of lightning, triggering a gigantic explosion, immediately knocking out Phaelnah, Seamus, Arghan, the twins, and Captain Neylor of the Fleethounds from behind the city gate.
  • Grognock healed up Seamus as Tyerjon gave Phaelnah a healing potion
  • Arghan seemingly passed away, but the twins came to. They became mournful over the loss of their friend, and presented a brilliant diamond to Phaelnah, tugging at her and pointing at Arghan’s body while chattering in gnomish
    • Phaelnah couldn’t cast magic without the help of her goddess, but did have access to the power provided to her by the Nightblight
    • Phaelnah cast Revivify using this dark power, bringing Arghan back to life
  • The twins expressed gratitude towards Phaelnah for her act
  • Arghan thanked Phaelnah and departed holding the hands of the twins, saying he’d be back soon
  • The party met with Captain Tulk of the Savental, the division of the Bankers Guild in Caedalir
    • Tulk thanked the party for their help, calling them heroes
    • e explained that the military presence on the east side of the city was low as they were bolstering the west side due to mounting tensions between the Nightspell Moors and Betaria
    • He offered them a place to stay for the night in the city barracks, which the group accepted
  • Making use of the modest space they were afforded, the group attempted a communion with Aeltra to help Phaelnah. Grognock sat out the ritual, choosing instead to tend to wounded in the infirmary.
    • Phaelnah found herself in the ring of trees of the endless forest she knew to symbolize the presence of Aeltra. She apologized to the goddess while attempting to place blame on the party
    • The goddess filled the air with angry, violent winds, but eventually relaxed, much like a mother would when scolding a child. Vines began to grow around Phaelnah’s left arm, leaving a faint glow as the communion faded away
    • Casting Light in the center of the room, Phaelnah found that her magic had been returned to her
  • The group settled into a long rest, healing their wounded bodies
  • In the morning, the group was invited to the office of the mayor, Alue Caverdien
    • Though the city was low on funding due to the prospects of war, Alue offered to spare what she could from the city coffers
    • She offered the group advice regarding Sanaris
    • Alue invited to group to have breakfast in the dining hall at the base of her tower as she met with her bankers to see what she could offer
  • The group enjoyed a hearty meal of fish and shaeval, a traditional bread from Sanaris
    • Alue joined them as they finished their meal, offering them 1000 gold in total
    • She told Tyerjon she would try her hardest to learn more of this Eilon Terix he was seeking
  • As the group prepared to spend a day out on the town, Grognock met with Alue in her office, asking her of any powerful wizards she knew of, and of the temples in town
    • While there were no eminent wizards in the city, she suggested to look amongst the ranks of the Council of Dreamers
    • Alue mentioned the Fectern Church and Temple of Erudia to visit in town
  • Seamus transformed using his amulet, giving himself the name Murica
    • He changed into the dress the group bought for him prior
    • He gave his sword to Tyerjon for safekeeping, as it was a bit heavy for him
  • Phaelnah visited an herbalist and purchased some herb seeds and later bought a cooking pot
  • Leadbelly walked around town, buying a mirror, handkerchief, and a magnifying glass.
    • He later visited a temple of Unavaranu, where he prayed twice for forgiveness from the goddess which angered Onyr, who struck him with a small bolt of lightning
  • Seamus (as Murica) bought a fitted set of studded leather armor, doffing his breastplate that no longer fit him.
  • Journey and Tyerjon each got a health potion at an apothecary
  • Tyerjon and Phaelnah got some various teas
  • Grognock visited the Fectern Church and the Temple of Erudia, talking to the priests of demons and offering prayers for answers
  • After a night of rest, the group awoke, and set out onto the road for a few days
  • The group woke up the morning of the 27th to heavy rain, stained red like blood, that left a biting sensation when it came into contact with bare skin
  • After a few hours on the road, the party came upon two figures, obscured by the rain
    • Coming closer, Phaelnah recognized one figure as the woman that visited her in the tavern in Vardev and afflicted her with her curse
    • Beside her was a tall, strange knight clad in full plate armor made of a twisted, dark metal. The helmet of the knight resembled a smiling, demonic face.
    • Wander attempted to continue walking past the two, but the knight blocked his path and pushed him back with a shove
    • The woman spoke up, remarking, “I think it’s time we talked, when she’s not listening.”
