A fast graceful but hard to steed from the northern mountains of Miradorium native to the Tong.
They can scramble their way up a sheer cliff wall or in the case of them being ridden in the palace of Songborne up the side of a tower. Several towers have entry for Kalab riders part way up. These are almost always people of status as these steeds are expensive and breeders are rare.
There is a Kalab stable at the palace and the creatures are raced annually by the high born around the cliff edge of Songborne.
The Tong have a tradition of shaving intricate patterns and symbols into the animals fur and this tradition has been adopted by the palace stables .
They can leap large distances and in a practice started by the Tong's cavalry they are used to charge at the front line of an approaching army leap over the pike men and cause havock in the enemies rear guard.
