The Milky Way is a huge compound of more than 300 billion stars and many habitable systems that orbits a supermassive black hole at the heart of it. The galactic arms rotate around this black hole more than 100,000 light-years in diameter. It serves as a backdrop for trade, politics, and war throughout galactic history. The edge of the Milky Way's disk is surrounded by a huge energy field of negative energy, the Galactic Barrier, which makes travel in and out of the Milky Way difficult.

In the science of stellar cartography, the Milky Way was divided into four large regions called quadrants: PrilaqMysserian TerritoryDova Rim and the Unknown, each of which formed part of the Milky Way. Each quadrant was divided into thousands of sectors. Scientists estimate that one in 59,774,665 planets supports intelligent life forms.
