The campaign begins on the 16th day of Samah, 1632 ADM, with the players, old friends of Lord Therald of Egador, now King of Favelion, being invited to his castle, Castle Eldar. Kohros, a human paladin, arrives at the castle first, followed by Coco, a Tabaxi ranger, and Yllaleth, an elf bard, who greet each other as old friends. Lastly, Vera, a human sorcerer, joins them. They are welcomed by Aelar, the half-elf chancellor and Therald’s right-hand, and led to the throne room for a feast. Therald explains that a thief has stolen the Coin of Egador, a precious heirloom, and he trusts the players to recover it, as the village is under lockdown and the thief must still be nearby. The party begins their investigation by questioning the castle guards, who mention an unfamiliar merchant delivered goods recently, a task usually handled by old Marlo. They speak with the groundskeeper, blacksmith, and stablehand, who confirm seeing the strange merchant head toward the market.
At the market, they learn from the baker that someone bought a lot of bread, seemingly preparing for a long journey, and the butcher directs them to the Broken Wheel Tavern, where the players spot the thief. Chaos erupts into a bar fight, and the thief escapes out the back, using magic to command chickens to attack the players. After defeating the chickens, the group splits up, with Coco and Kohros speaking to the carpenter, who offers little information, while Yllaleth and Vera talk to a guard who confirms seeing the mysterious merchant and suggests he might have gone toward the fishing docks. The group reunites at the docks, where they find old Marlo, bound and wounded. After healing him, Marlo tells them he saw the thief heading toward the farm. Following this lead, the party reaches a windmill where the thief tries to escape in an air balloon. After Coco misses two shots, Kohros throws a javelin that punctures the balloon, causing it to crash into the river, presumably killing the thief. The players recover the Coin of Egador and a Ravenblood emblem from the crash site and return to the castle, only to find the throne room in chaos. Lord Therald has been poisoned, and the councilmen accuse the players of murder, leading to their imprisonment. Shortly after, Aelar, believing in their innocence, frees them and leads them through a secret passage. However, they are caught by the guards, and Aelar sacrifices himself to allow the players to escape, bringing the session to a close.
