Previous Episode: Voyage of the Cursed Dawn - S02 E12
The session picked up in Baldor, shortly after Red Flint discovered that he had apparently invested a small fortune in Cuckoo Bananas during the party’s missing days. While looking around, Davkas Grosko discovered a recruitment poster from the Explorer’s Guild, displaying an image of a remarkable stone and asking for workers. The party sought out the guild and spoke with its leader, who told them about one of their greatest discoveries: a piece of the legendary Arkenstone. The artifact had since passed into royal hands and was now incorporated into the throne of King Nevalon of Baldor. While at the guild, Rasa Arziki spoke with one of their smiths about the obsidian he had collected during their travels. The smith offered to forge it into an Obsidian Ring of Teleportation, but the price was far beyond what Rasa could currently afford. Juulia Troski agreed to advance him the necessary gold on the condition that he repay her soon. The ring would take two nights to complete. Rasa then visited Baldor’s Mage Guild to finally learn more about the mysterious trident that Red Flint had previously given him. A mage named Asmelnor identified it as a Trident of Fish Command, but its history made it far more significant than an ordinary magical weapon. It had once been wielded by a demigod son of Agwé, God of Aquatic Life, explaining the unusual power Rasa had already witnessed from it.
Meanwhile, Juulia and Cain Vaelen began scouting King Nevalon’s castle, already considering how they might get inside and reach the Arkenstone. Juulia used the Piece of Eight and its power of perfect deception to disguise herself as Jacob Black. The disguise worked flawlessly, and the guards allowed “Jacob” into the castle without suspicion. Inside the throne room, however, Juulia unexpectedly encountered Kal Black, Jacob’s younger brother. Kal immediately recognized who he believed to be his brother and began scolding him for being in Baldor instead of attending his own networking mission elsewhere on the Arafora Sea. He even accused Jacob of abusing Vreugdedrank, unknowingly giving Juulia more information about what Jacob was supposed to be doing. Elsewhere in Baldor, Davkas suddenly found himself confronted by Skullcap, leader of the Shadow Shroom. Skullcap had not forgotten their arrangement. Davkas had been ordered to deliver Abby, the living Sands of Time, to the Shadow Shroom. Now Skullcap and his gnomes were ready to collect. Davkas was faced with the decision he had been avoiding: lead the Shadowshrooms to Abby and betray his companions, or turn against his own guild. Session ends.
