Dragons are intelligent, winged, lizard-like beings which were once widespread throughout Aghera. They are among Aghera’s most ancient creatures and have heavily influenced several historical eras.

In modern times, however, most species are a rare sight. Driven by fear or by a hunger for the magical properties of their body parts, the humanoid races hunted the larger species of dragon nearly to extinction; the smallest species have avoided the fate of their larger kin by hiding deep in the wilderness. Dragons are now protected by law in most parts of Aghera, with exceptions for particularly troublesome individuals.

Types

Primordial Dragons

The primordial dragons are the most primal, and are just as much elemental creatures as they are draconic. They are forces of nature, part of Aghera itself, and almost incomprehensibly powerful. Kirrentyr and Zinnora are believed to be among the first — if not the first — to exist, and are regarded by most dragonkin as creator dieties. The One Who Lurks Beneath the Ice and its counterpart, The Devouring Flame, came into being shortly afterwards.

Elder Dragons

The elder dragons are the first dragons created by Kirrentyr and Zinnora, and serve as draconic deities.

True Dragons

True dragons (a term coined to differentiate the creatures from similar ones, like wyverns and drakes) are the dragons that the denizens of Aghera are most likely to encounter. They range wildly in size and in appearance; some ancient dragons are big as castles, while faerie dragons are little bigger than a domestic cat.

Those few dragons who live long enough to become great wyrms may even come to rival the elder dragons' power and knowledge. Only five great wyrms are known to exist, and most take great pains to remain hidden.

In-Game Knowledge

  • So far, the party has seen three dragon soul shards: one from Neiddrir, Kyldaross, and an unspecified dragon. No other creature appears to posses these, and their purpose is not entirely clear.
