Imperial Legion

The Imperial Legion is the name given to the personal levies of the Shahanshah. Unlike the feudal legions, the Imperial Legion is personally loyal to the Shahanshah. Most provinces of the Empire host a detachment of legionnaires, though they are only a majority of forces in the Imperial Domain. The Legion is a well-trained and effective fighting force, going through a rigorous training regimen before they are released to active service. The Legion is also a diverse force, with recruits from across the Empire though they are united by their loyalty to the Shahanshah and their comradery. The Legion is primarily occupied with maintaining internal stability and fighting external wars. 

Militarily, the day-to-day operations of the Legion are overseen by the Lord Marshal, who also sits on the Imperial Conclave as the Shahanshah's chief military advisor.

Equipment

Legionnaires of the Imperial Legion are distinguished by their gold-colored uniforms, which are worn over chainmail or leather armor. The typical legionnaire's kit includes armor, a shield, a spear, and a short sword. Helmets are often adorned with plumes or feathers. In wealthier provinces, the legionnaires wear plated armor of scaled mail. Gold, as the Imperial color, is the primary color utilized by the Legion.

Structure

The Imperial Legion is personally commanded by the Shahanshah. However, true command is often delegated to the Imperial Lord Marshal, who oversees day-to-day affairs.
