The Shahanshah (lit: "King of Kings"), also called the Namanshah (lit: "Great King"), the Padishah (lit: "Master King"), the Shah or Great Shah, the Shahanshah-Emperor, or the Pelegonic Emperor or Emperor, is the hereditary ruler of Pelegon. The title is Celestial for "King of Kings" and is rarely translated to its Common equivalent of "Emperor" due to its religious significance.
The Shahanshah is seen as a semi-divine figure within Pelegon. Pelegon I himself is seen as the national patron deity of the Empire, while his descendants are subsequently seen as possessing godsblood, a belief strengthened by the visual marks left on the dynasty by Odion: purple eyes and red hair. Through Pelegon I’s marriage to Tutankh’deshen III, the dynasty is also descended from Abuleth his father Deshen, and his father Beld. This divinity sourced from both the patrilineal and matrilineal sides leads many within the Empire to almost worship the Shahanshahs themselves.
