Hannilcar I was the Sea Lord from IV 681 to IV 684. His brief reign was a reign of peace and prosperity for Kardunashi's Sea Realm, as Hannilcar himself was a peaceful man and made no attempts to engage in any wars of conquest despite the urgings of his councilors and heir, Quarta. Hannilcar welcomed dignitaries from across Yekare to his palace in Nys, turning the former martial fortress into a center of learning and culture. He was beloved by the smallfolk and foreigners, while often villainized by his own courtiers. Hannilcar was poisoned three years into his reign under mysterious circumstances. His daughter, Quarta, blamed the poisoning on Land Lord Sophos VI and used it as cassus belli for her overthrow of the Kardunashi Kingdom, though scholars are divided on the veracity of this claim, with most believing that either Quarta herself, a member of his court, or a third party poisoned the Sea Lord.
