Shadowships are large ocean-going vessels designed and sailed by the Veiled Ones. They are galleys, generally comparable in size to dromons, though their sizes can vary. Large and powerful, shadowships are propelled by a combination of sail and oar power, generally with large crews of oarsmen. The ships are primarily used to transport goods for trade during the Somber Market both to and from Pashayos. As such, they have large spaces for the storing of goods.
The ships are made of black wood, with black sails and black oars. They are noted to bring a dark and gloomy fog with them, despite the elation which usually surrounds the sight of them. In spite of their great size, shadowships are known to be fast, which is believed to be due to the strong arcane power employed by the Veiled Ones.
Shadowships usually boast a crew of 170 rowers, with an additional fifty crew members who fulfil functions like defense, trade, maintenance, and general passengers.
