The Mernforts are a series of small castles along the River Mern. Built by the Kings in the Old Castle, the Mernforts were constructed to guard the fertile lands near Lake Arcanos from Mernelian and Y'kanosi raiders. The Mernforts were all originally sworn to House Mannos, serving as important guardian forts for the Kings of the Mern. However, following the Pelegonic Conquest, Pelegon I and House Pelegon took rulership of the forts, and since then the houses of the Mernforts, except for House Restwell, the ruling house of Candlestone Hall, are directly sworn to the Imperial House.
