The Return of the Tide is the name given by historians to the war between the Land and Sea Lords of Kardunash which established the Kardunashi Sea Empire. The name comes from a speech given by Quarta I shortly before setting sail from Nys to Kardunash, announcing that the myriad fleets under her command were like the waves, having come out, and that now the tide of ships would roll back into Kardunash.
