Lord Karthyl Ugaros, born Karthyl Zur'kein, was the bastard son of Lord Ulysses Ugaros. A distinguished military commander, Sir Karthyl was named as heir to the Quiet Castle by his half-sister Lady Ulyssa Ugaros and legitimized by the claimant Shahanshah Beldoran Pelegon. When his sister was slain in battle, he became Lord of the Quiet Castle, though immediately faced resistance from his sister's former lawful heir, Ysrela Ugaros. To prevent conflict, Lord Karthyl wed Ysrela to unite their claims, which placated her faction but did not stop other, more distant, challenges to his legitimacy, which he frequently faced during his reign. Attempting to find an artifact which could be a new heirloom to legitimize his reign, Karthyl entered the Silent Necropolis in V 216, never to be seen again.
