Bloodwoods are a species of tree found in the Wailing Wood in the Shadowfell. Bloodwoods are distinguished by their distinct appearance: bark black as coal, leaves of blood red crimson, and holes in the trees. When wind blows through the hole in a bloodwood, it makes a distinctly awful and agonizing wailing sound, from which the Wailing Wood sources its name.

Bloodwood Sap is a thick, viscous black and red fluid which has a distinctly harsh and metallic taste. Bloodwood sap is also among the deadliest poisons known to man.

Bloodwoods are believed by the inhabitants of the Wailing Wood to be cursed souls trapped in the form of trees, wailing in agony as they bemoan their fate. As such, these people bury their worst criminals alive in the Wailing Wood in the hopes that their souls may join the accursed in eternal torment.

Some scholars speculate a relation between bloodwoods and Bonewood, as they have similar features and odditites.
