Benathyk is a master mason of the Masons' Guild and Shek P'Var of the Odivshe convocation. As a mason, he specializes in engineering river structures such as watermills, bridges, and docks. Not only does this provide him with a reliable source of income, it also provides a cover for his more esoteric studies.

While studying old journals in his chantry’s library in Cherafir, Benathyk stumbled across the diary of Mearkis Rotsteiner, an Odivishe Shek-Pvar of great renown in his time. His fascination with the journal, especially several puzzling entries, led him to travel to Burzyn.

Benathyk is staying at the Blue Horse Inn. He eats and drinks the best the inn can provide and never seems to be short of money. Although he spends most of his time studying the old caer, Benathyk is also sketching out plans to rebuild the town’s old wharf. He intends to seek funding for the project from the Mangai, with himself acting as engineer.

Benathyk dresses in loose robes and favors shades of turquoise and blue. He has gray hair, cold blue-gray eyes, and a narrow chiseled face. His hair is long, curly, and worn loose over his shoulders. He is rarely without his writing case and notebook. When at the caer, he will have surveying gear such as set square, plumb line, ranging pole, and many other tools of indeterminate purpose.
