- (Note that Hector and Carly did not join tonight, no communication or response).
- As the ship begins sailing east from Nurisel the PCs observe that Hoban Bernwesh deftly negotiates the channels between the Isle of Melderyn on the right and the mainland on the left, including several small islands. After a couple of hours the ship begins turning to the north with the open sea on the right to the east.
- Captain Renals explains to the PCs that there are predators plying this shipping lane, and they should know what the enemy might be. He covers the Orbaalese Raiders (kill and burn), Hepekerian Pirates (slavers), and Trierzi Privateers (bounty hunters looking for Renals and the Bernweshes). He reminds them that his job is to transport them to Thay, and he would prefer they get there alive. If they want to help, fine, but they can stay in berths if they like.
- Hjalgrimm and Faelon both get seasick.
- In the early afternoon, sailing north along the Melderyni coast, a couple of the sailors on the poop deck holler out that "Hey! The kids are here!" Four of the party are on the main deck:
- Hjalgrimm at the rail mid starboard,
- Rook chatting about tactics with Zoe and Lyly,
- Faelon sitting on a smallboat mid port,
- Askelon chatting with Hoban on the poop deck,
- Ambra and Lanhair in their bunks, having taken night watch for the experience.
- Zoe tells the party to go aft if they want to see something cool. As they turn to head that way, the sailors on the aft starboard corner and aft port corner both exclaim "They're coming up!" Renals yells that something is wrong. He asks "Anyone seen the mama?" Several respond with "No, sir!"
- A fight ensues, as Calli and Mara, two Giant Octopus, attack the sailors. Renals fires an arrow into Mara. Zoe and Lyly both cast Fire Bolts, Rook stabbed and threw daggers, Askelon leapt into the netting and nailed Mara hard with a Necrotic Bolt. Most of the sailors amidship moved to engage on the poop deck. Janis and a few sailors stayed on the aft deck with Hjalgrimm, Janis, and the captain.
- Right as Mara crushed and killed the sailor it had first attacked, Mama Sushi appeared at the base of the ship, aft on the port side. They all rushed up to engage her. Hjalgrimm moved up to Calli but could not get a hit on the waving tentacles, as she was all over him, making it hard to maneuver.
- On the poop deck, Faelon maneuvered himself between Mara and Hoban, something that Hoban loudly expressed his appreciation for. Faelon delivered serious damage to Mara.
- Mama Sushi grabbed and constricted one of the aft deck sailors while everyone else hacked at her with rapiers. Or in Janis' case, scimitars. Hjalgrimm still could not get a hit in with the greatsword, so he cast Shield of Faith instead. Captain Renals laid a brutal Scorpion spear into the Huge Octopus.
- Before either Calli or Mara could drop off the ship to escape, the troops on the poop deck, including Faelon casting Necrotic Bolt from the webbing, killed them both. Mama Sushi saw this, and realizing she was seriously wounded, and quickly, she needed to peace out. She squirted a slick of black ink on the deck and retreated down the side of the ship. She took a few more hits on the way down, but dropped into the froth of the sea, still alive.
- Inara healed the wounded sailor on the aft deck, then ran to tend to the sailor on the starboard corner of the poop deck. He stabilized and she gave him some healing from Halea. There was nothing to be done for the other sailor on the port corner - he was toast.
- Askelon says that he is going to collect ink sacs and tentacle meat from Calli and Mara. Hjalgrimm assists him with Guidance. He manages both tasks well, collecting one intact Ink Sac and several pounds of fresh Octopus Meat. Renals is thrilled, and tells them to take it to the galley. They will all eat well for a few days.
- The sailors use buckets on ropes to collect seawater and clean the blood, ichor, and ink from the decks.
- After a solemn burial at sea ceremony for the slain sailor, they eat and head for the bunks.

- In the morning (Kelen 22, TR721), Faelon is almost, almost recovered from his stomach woes, induced by first Thalgarr's spices, then the sea. Hjalgrimm has recovered from his seasickness. Once again, the women took midnight watch, so they were asleep when the bell rang twice, then two seconds later rang twice again. The party recognized that as the alarm signal.
- Zoe had called from the crow's nest that a ship approaches, fast, from the southeast. It looks like a Trierzi Privateer ship. Everyone goes into combat mode.
- Askelon casts Mage Armor, Hjalgrimm blesses Rook, Faelon, and himself.
- As the ship approaches, Renals estimates it is in range of his scorpion, and begins firing spears at the pursuer. The first shot is short, but he hits twice, once hitting the deck hard, and once sticking into the port side of the ship. He then followed up with a flaming spear attack, which landed squarely on the aft deck of the Trierzi ship. The crew of the Gloss Knight could see the Trierzi crew scramble to extinguish the flames.
- When the Privateer ship was 120 feet out, Zoe, Lyly, Askelon, and Janis attacked targets on the attacking ship. Askelon got the party started by putting a maximum damage Necrotic Bolt into the Trierzi Privateer Sorcerer, nearly killing him. The Sorcerer fired a Fire Bolt at Askelon, but could not steady himself for the shot, due to pain. A Trierzi Privateer Lead Hand got jostled by a wave, and he shot a crossbow bolt into his own sailor. Hjalgrimm casts Bless on Faelon, Rook, and himself. Inara cast a Bless on Captain Renals, Rook, and Janis.
- As the Privateer vessel edged up to the Gloss Knight their crew tossed grapple hooks to pull the ships together. From the webbing near the main mast, Rook expertly through a dagger into a Trierzi Privateer, killing him. He threw another dagger, but it missed its target, sticking into the deck. Janis put a crossbow bolt into the Trierzi Privateer Marine. The Trierzi Sorcerer tried to burn Askelon with a Fire Bolt, but it was weak and off target. The Trierzi Privateer First Mate fires a bolt into one of the sailors on the main deck, badly wounding him. Hjalgrimm commands the Trierzi Privateer directly across from him on the Trierzi ship to drop his weapon into the sea. The Privateer succumbs to the Morgathian dweomer and tosses his rapier over the edge. Askelon pushes yet another maximum power Necrotic Bolt into the angry and terrified Trierzi Sorcerer. Zoe missed the Trierzi Marine with a Fire Bolt, but Renals fires an arrow into the Trierzi Privateer Captain. Lyly followed that up with a Fire Bolt into the Trierzi Captain. Rook guts another Trierzi Privateer, leaving him dead on the main deck.
