Session 009 Arrival in Thay

• The rescued boy is a 10 year old Human (father is dead, mother is alive). The girl is an 8 year old Aenarin (both parents dead).
• Zoe points out that the bow sprit from the destroyed ship has writing carved into it and blackened. She asks if anyone can read it, and Hjalgrimm tells her it is written in Runic - "Grakknart"
• Hjalgrimm remembers that the Graknart which is one of the northman raider ships involved in the Rape of Thay. He recalls a song about the Tragedy of Graknart. It was burned down by a Melderyni mage from a navy ship, then found to have been carrying children. The Captain and Mage committed ritual suicide in the public square in Thay in remorse.
• Coelemal Renals and Lyly both say that there is writing on the front of the lid of the chest - on a brass nameplate. 
• Hjalgrimm translates it as "Karl Jorgenson." He remembers that this was the name of the Jarl that drew the short stick to pilot the boat with the enslaved children. With only a few teenagers able to row ably in these waters, the Graknart was expected to fall behind. It is believed that Jorgenson became a wraith and the Graknart a ghost ship.
• There is a placard on the chest that says Karl Jorgenson. He was the Jarl Wraith we fought.
• Nyx hears a female voice in her head speaking in Deep Speech, saying "Child of the Deep. I feel you. Claim the Fathomless." The voice is that of Sinnefrea, whose spirit is now trapped in the artifact called Sinnefrea's Clasp.
• Renals, Lyly, and Nyx are around the chest. Nyx looks frantic. She repeats "It's here! I know it is!"
• Lyly inspects the inside of the chest and discovers a secret compartment in the lid containing a wand sleeve and something wrapped in oiled seal skin. Nyx reaches out and grabs the wrapped item, seemingly paralyzed. Completely transfixed. After a few moments, she relaxes, looking slightly embarrassed. She unwraps the leather, then looks around asking for a spare cloak. A sailor hands one over, The item is gold, silver, and bluish metal with motifs of whales. It is 2 pieces. on the right a whale faces to the left and has a long axe in its mouth. The other side is the mirror image. She attaches them onto the cape then dons the cape. As she pulls the two sides of the clasp near each other the hafts of the axes snap together, almost like magnets. The two crossed axes are part of the sign of the God Sarajin, one of the 10 Gods.
• Her demeanor changes. She seems peaceful. "I knew it was here. She told me."
• Lyly pulls out a white ash wand with a star on top. The star symbol is the star of the Shek P'Var, school of magic users. it is a wand of detect magic.
• Askelon picked up some spectral ship wood. He collected some very good Bukrai residue.
• Faelon asks Askelon about the things he collects, then gives him a vial of dirt from his home country of Shoju.
• Renals explains that it is law that a registered pilot must guide all ships larger than a 2-man fishing boat into the port of Thay. It happens that Hoban Bernwesh is a pilot registered with the Pilots’ Guild in Thay, so he can take in the Gloss Knight. A pilot from Thay will come out to pilot Le Tigresse into Thay. Hoban asks Askelon if he'd like to accompany the pilot on the Trierzi ship, and he gladly accepts. 
• Askelon expertly drives the other boat into the river.
• We see towns along the way. Then we start seeing high walls and towers with a city spread around it. The castle is at least 4 stories tall. 1 tower is almost twice as tall. Hoban is in a dinghy and hooks up to the other boat. A very well-dressed man, accompanied by four armed guards, boards and welcomes us to Thay.
• The party finds their way to the Crown and Apple. They spot Lebiras Paril (5.5' female Human, brown hair, brown eyes, code phrase Stem of Horka.) 
• Renals tells the stories from asea, and we are invited to dinner.
• The guys want to shop and Hjalgrimm rounds up the kiddos to go to the Crown and Apple.
• Rook orders a round of drinks, giving a cider to Hjalgrimm. Hjalgrimm swigs the beer, then spits it out, calling across the room for a real beer. Faelon tries hard not to laugh. We all stow our backpacks, then go to dinner.
• Dude is introduced as Mayor Melesen. the pilot is there. a dozen nicely dressed people. the elders are there. There is a Laranian priestess there. Guild of Arcane Lore guildmaster is there. Peonians come in (priest and priestess). loads and loads of food is set out.
• Hjalgrimm tells the battle story, but makes himself better in combat.
• The busker sings a ballad about Graknart.
• A reward for rescuing the 2 kids is given to Renals. Renals hands one of the two pouches to the party, which contains 200 gp.
• Mayor invites party to a public feast in their honor.
• Go back to inn for sleeping.
