Aymon the Brute

Drunk

Height: 8 feet tall
Current Status: Drunken wanderer near the
Docks of Lygos
Personality: Boisterous, Proud, Hot-Tempered, Surprisingly Sentimental

Appearance:

Aymon the Brute is an imposing figure, even when slouched against a barrel outside a dockside tavern. His scarred, ash-gray skin glistens with a faint heat shimmer, and his matted, fiery red beard is streaked with soot and spilled ale. His once-formidable armor hangs in tatters—reduced to scraps of metal plates strapped over ragged sea-worn leathers. Despite his bedraggled appearance, his amber eyes still burn with a fierce, stubborn glint, hinting at the warrior he once was. His voice is a deep, rumbling baritone, booming through the streets as he bellows out slurred sea shanties, frightening pigeons and delighting drunkards.

Personality:

Aymon is loud, brash, and unapologetically crude. He thrives on attention, often drawing a crowd as he belts out sea shanties, slaps passersby on the back, and demands another drink. Beneath the bluster, however, lies a deep loneliness and a simmering guilt over his exile.

While quick to anger—especially when mocked or disrespected—Aymon has a soft spot for those who treat him with genuine kindness. He boasts of grand adventures that may or may not be true, but his loyalty is fierce once earned. His pride is easily bruised, and any insults toward his heritage or clan are met with immediate (and often explosive) retaliation.

Background:

Aymon hails from an isolated volcanic island in the Lake of Steam called Talos’ Fist, part of a proud fire giant clan known for their blacksmithing, seafaring prowess, and fiery tempers. Banished for stealing from his clan’s sacred treasury—a crime he claims was a misunderstanding—Aymon fled to Lygos, drowning his shame in cheap liquor and sailor songs.

He dreams of returning home, though he fears facing the wrath of his kin, particularly his clan leader, who exiled him. Despite his flaws, Aymon holds valuable knowledge about the region’s waters, including legends of a sunken ship filled with treasure, which he claims to have seen in his youth.

Role in Gameplay:

  • Initial Encounter: Players find Aymon drunken and singing loudly near the docks, possibly causing a scene with local guards or sailors. He might be begging for coin, starting a brawl, or passed out with a half-empty jug of rum.

  • Quest Hook: If the players engage with him—offering a drink, coin, or companionship—they’ll learn of his island home and the promise of treasure beneath the waves. Convincing him to be their guide may require persuasion, flattery, or simply another round of drinks.

  • Island Adventure:

    • Aymon can lead the party to his island, but they’ll face challenges:

      • Navigating treacherous waters in the Lake of Steam, testing the party’s seafaring skills.

      • Dealing with Aymon’s fiery clan, who are not thrilled to see their disgraced kinsman return.

      • Diplomacy challenges to prevent conflict with the hot-blooded fire giants.

  • Potential Rewards:

    • If the players help Aymon reunite with his clan—either by restoring his honor or brokering peace—he’ll reveal the location of a sunken ship filled with treasure.

    • Aymon may even become an occasional ally, offering his brute strength in future quests if the party earns his trust.

Strengths & Abilities (Optional Mechanics):

  • Brute Strength: Even in a drunken stupor, Aymon’s punches can splinter wood and dent metal. In combat, he wields an enormous, rusted anchor like a club.

  • Fire Affinity: Aymon retains a limited connection to his elemental heritage, capable of producing small bursts of flame—mostly used to light his drinks on fire.

  • Sea Shanty Savant: His loud singing has an odd, almost magical effect, occasionally bolstering morale or distracting enemies (whether intentional or not).

Key Relationships:

  • The Brimstone Clan: Aymon’s estranged family of fire giants. They view him as a disgrace, but some may secretly miss him.

  • Dockside Contacts: Aymon has dubious “friends” among the dockworkers and tavern owners—most tolerate him out of amusement or fear.

Quotes:

  • “Oi! You there! Got a coin for an ol’ sailor? No? Bah, stingier than a dwarf with a locked chest!”

  • “Ah, the Lake of Steam... home sweet home. Hot as dragon’s breath, cold as my mother’s glare. You’d love it!”

  • “A sunken ship full o’ treasure? Aye, I’ve seen it! Swear on me last jug of rum… wait, did I finish that already?”

Aymon the Brute is more than a drunken giant; he’s a gateway to high-seas adventure, sunken treasure, and fiery diplomacy. Players who look past his bluster may find a loyal companion—or a ticking time bomb of trouble.
