On the southern side of Innsmouth is the neighborhood that originally was supposed to house the employees working in local tourist jobs. When Barnabas Marsh’s original plan failed, the large apartment complexes of Babson Street and the southern neighborhood lost most of their value, and investors from Boston and Arkham bought the properties and rented out the apartments to the people drawn to the new Innsmouth by job opportunities.

Today, the area around Babson Street is generally considered the town’s den of villainy, where the Whateley family and the odd small gang vie for power and the police are seldom, if ever, seen. If what you are looking for is illegal, the one place to find it in Innsmouth is Babson Street. And, well, if you are not a neighborhood local, wandering those streets could well be quite dangerous to your wallet and the integrity of your ribs. Granted, it is a far cry from the dangerous neighborhoods of the large cities, but when walking down Babson Street, it’s better safe than sorry.
