This college teaches the art of matching your spellcasting with the rhythm of a beat. Every bard of this college is gifted, creates, or otherwise retrieves a floating device called a MERE Machine, Magic Enhancing Rhythm Emitting Machine, which acts as their instrument.
MERE Machine
When you join the College of Rhythm at 3rd level, you have in your possession something called a MERE Machine. It acts as your spellcasting focus, and it is a floating, controllable emitter of music that you can activate as a bonus action on your turn, then throw it to any unoccupied space of your choice within 30 feet of you. It then starts hovering in that space.
Whenever you cast a bard spell on your turn, you can cast it as if you were in the MERE Machine's space, instead of your own. Additionally, you can use bardic inspiration in the same way.
The machine can take any form you choose, but typically they look like things that produce sound (Instruments, jack in a box, boombox).
As a bonus action on your turn, you can move the MERE Machine up to 30 feet.
Student of Rhythm
At 3rd level, choose two colors and two beats out of the list found at the bottom of this subclass.
As a bonus action, you can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to activate RHYTHM mode on your MERE Machine, as long as you are within 60 feet of it. The MERE Machine starts playing a steady beat and flashing a color that sheds light within 10 feet of it, imbued with spellcasting energy designed to enhance spells depending on the mixture of color and beat. When you activate this ability, choose one beat and one color out of the ones chosen when you got this ability.
You gain an additional color and beat at 5th, 8th, 11th, and 15th level.
