The Aesir are the norse deities of Midgard and Asgard. They were born into a world with nothing and with no land to call their own. Odin and his brothers ripped Ymir asunder with his flesh, bones, brains, and blood, they created the mountains, the ocean, the clouds, and the lands of Midgard. They dwelled in Asgard, a civilized and law-abiding land, surrounded by a thick wall. The Vanir, the second tribe of gods appeared from Vanaheim, a land with sacred halls, woods, and fields. They both waged war and eventually the Vanir were absorbed into Aesir ranks. The Jötnar (commonly called giants) are a race that waged war against the Aesir since the dawn of time, and they lost, having to live in Jötunheimr and some of them even having to mate with the gods to preserve their kin. Both forces still torment each other until this day.
