This is an event that happened in December 3 of 2018 when Chicago was struck by many natural catastrophes that killed dozens of people throughout the city. The internet started naming this event the Red December because of the destruction and deaths that happened in that day.
Book 1: The World Awakens
The cause of this event is not known by the majority of the public, only a few people really knows why it happened. The cult of the Red Hand was conducting a ritual to bring their goddess, a being of immense power that would bring the Eternal Night, and make the Vampires the rulers of the World.
The ritual was disrupted by a Band of Scions helping Wellington Reis. They tracked two vampires and their goons to the Buckingham Fountain, where one of the rituals were happening. Other groups were performing the ritual in other places in the city, but were disrupted by a joint effort between the Ordo Aureum Aurora, Tsukikage, Golden Snake, and some other allies of the Band.
When the Band defeated the vampires, they needed to stabilize the Ley Line in the city to not cause more destruction. At this time, Wellington Reis conducted another ritual to invoke a dragon and break the veil between the World and many of Terra Incognitae that were hidden.
