The First Eternal Imperium of Valdros

The Imperium
The First Eternal Imperium of Valdros, the oldest and most powerful surviving civilization of the known world.  It's territories spanning across vast lands, the Imperium has endured through countless wars, disasters, dynasties, and other ages long lost to the annals of history.  It's cities among the largest ever built, armies amongst the most capable and strongest ever assembled, and the scholars, craftsmen, and mages of Valdros are well known for the wonders they have created that can't be found anywhere else in all of Valdyr.

The citizens of the Imperium believe that it is the heart of civilization istself.  Ancient roads connecting distant provinces, powerful institutions maintain order across absolutely enormous terrirtories, and knowledge gathered over millenia is preserved within it's various libraries, academies, temples, and noble estates.  Many of the denizens Valdros believe that without the Imperium Valdyr itself would descend into chaos.

Yet beneath its grandeur lies a nation deeply divided.  Great noble houses, wealthy merchants, influential guilds, and ancient bloodlines hold tremendous power while countless laborers, craftsmen, farmers, and common citizens struggle beneath the weight of Imperial life.  Opportunities for wealth and status exist but rarely are they won easily, and never are they kept without significant effort.

Relations between the Imperium and Westreach remain strained centuries after the war that won Westreach's freedom.  To many Imperials Westreach is a rebellious frontier that abandoned civilization.  Those in Westreach see the imperium as a decaying relic sustained purely by corruption, oppression, and old powers.  Despite the long periods of peace, neither side has fully forgotten the past.

Whether viewed as the last great beacon of civilization, a fading giant clinging to former glory, or something in the middle few can deny the influence of the First Eternal Imperium of Valdros.  It's reach extends across the world, histories stretching beyond memory, and it's future may very well shape the fate of Valdyr itself.
