Daemons stir in the space between want and consequence. They grant wishes and whims, with their eyes always locked on freedom.
Pronounced “DAY-mon,” and not to be confused with the idea of a ‘demon,’ which is not present in the setting. Never purely good or evil, these Primordials of Shyva are an enigmatic bunch. Some are guides and muses, others are tricksters, some are forces of chaos, and some promote harmony. Their whims and desires are fluid. There are accounts of them allying or opposing with every other type of primordial at some point, according to what fulfills their desires or serves their interest at the time. As a group, they are neither anyone’s enemy nor their best friend, though they have little cohesion overall. Daemons are also particularly fascinated by humanity, and tend to walk among humans more than most of the other primordials. In fact, their Highbourne descendents, known as Museborn, are the most common type.
All Daemons are capable of being gender-fluid and most are pansexual, but some have preferences that they express more often than not. In addition to all of the shapechanging that all Primordials have, they can also turn fully or partially into smoke, mist, or dust, and many of them have other kinds of magical abilities as well, including invisibility.
The Daemon grant wishes - and there is validity to the “three wishes” legend of genies: each Daemon can only grant three wishes to all of humanity, and they can only grant a certain wish. These wishes always come at some kind of cost - which is either agreed upon from the beginning, or collected upon later. Once they have granted a wish to their third person, they have to wait for one of their recipients to die before they can grant another. The Daemon walk among humans in disguise, engaging in human vices, searching for their next wish recipient, or watching over humans they like.
