Xanthia - Session 51 - Name Day

Account

The below is a record written by witnesses following the Yellow Bird of the Cerulean Coast, as she began her journey joining The Oracle's Chosen.

Festivities continue in the Siren’s Roost.

Xan speaks to Braz and Ambrosia about the Siren’s Roost, enquiring about a place to sleep. She notes that her current sleeping quarters are under a table in the Satyr’s Tail. Braz suggests that the Siren’s Roost is a great place to stay. Ambrosia tells Xan to visit her later to discuss rates. Xan recognises that she may want to take advantage of her merriness, but it takes more than a few drinks to mess with Xan’s reasoning.

The party finish up their drinks and gather a few amphora or wine along with Xan’s ‘soup’ and make their way over to the Bathhouse.

Versi leaves them be as they meet with Kyrah.

They arrive to find Theo and Calliope awaiting them in a large side room at the bathhouse. Theo and Calliope are staring awkwardly at each other.

They discuss the intentions of the surprise guests at the games. They think they want to sway the population to be loyal to Lutheria and Sydon. Vallus enters and agrees.

She points out that there is small print in the oath that means that organisations can attack athletes. Theo is keen to take us away from the city to practice, but not everyone agrees.

Hippofilius believes that taking ourselves out of the equation would best protect the people.

They suggest that they speak to the Lady of Coins, which Xan finds surprising. She thought these were upstanding CItizens but they may be more corrupt than she thinks. As they tell her more it becomes clear they may have darker links.

The Oracle Chosen seems to be coming up with a plan to protect the other competitors and innocent citizens of the city while they are away.

They begin to discuss their team and the games, as the team mention their previous week’s birthday Xan is intrigued. She tells them about her Name Day which fell on the 19th of this month.

Theo is flabbergasted. Their birthdays fall on the same day.

Braz asks what a Name Day is. Xan explains it is what they use to name their babies before they are born, where the name chosen will choose their path in life. Her name means Yellow Bird, (or Yellow Rage depending on dialect), which she believes contributed to her journey off the island and across the seas.

Braz asks what would happen if you lose your name. Though a little weird, Xan has heard of tales where people were forced to surrender their names when bought into slavery or servitude but never ‘losing’ them as he described. She suggests that losing your name means you are changing your path.

The team reason with each other that the birthdays and name days being so in sync mean that they may be fated to work together for these games. Xan believes that if they are fated to be together they may be fated to win.

They discuss the games and decide who can take on each event. Xan is pleased with herself that she is eligible for almost every event, but is a little bitter she wouldn’t qualify for chariot racing. She pledges to train so she can put herself forward.

Theo indicates an interest in sailing, which Xan is excited about, as she sees Theo as reminiscent of her old captain, in an odd way.
