Session 99: 28th June 2022 - I’ll count to five.
Midday. After the party returned from seeing the Fates, a gloomy cloud hangs over them. Indecision.
Xan feels the rush of fear in her body. She feels it pull her away by the twist of anxiety in her chest. Towards the sea. Away from the decision. Away from the party. Away from having to deal with this.- Towards… somewhere? It feels like the end of the world. Poor Calliope. She could take her away. They could leave and make their own new place to hide. They don’t need to deal with this.
She sits alone for a while and mulls in her thoughts until her time at the helm comes. She relieves Bana and stands behind the wheel. Some of the party are sat down the Upside, deep in conversation. She strains to see if she can hear them but the wind takes their words away.
They sit. They talk. Xan watches as her friends go back and forth. They speak about life and death. Their faces turn towards Xan, asking her opinion. She blushes red. Heat flows up her skin out to her fingertips. She doesn’t know. It shouldn’t be her decision. She’s not as good as them. She’s not like them. She’s just…
“We are going to die, we need help.” She thinks of home. Others like her. An equaliser. Power. Allies.
Nessa rushes onto the Upside and approaches them, holding a piece of paper in her hand. Xan takes it from her and stares at the letters. Hipo..i…i..s. It’s probably from him.
He has gone to the island without them.
Action stations. The party load into the boats and jump to move to the island. Xan quickly runs to the Moxena’s room and demands her to come with them.
As she passes the stairs she hears her name from behind. Steros pokes his head from the room.
“Xan” he calls her in, and presents her with a small onyx and copper dog. He explains it is activated by the world “volcano” and can be used in battle.
A shout comes across the boat “XANTHIA!” Helikaon yelling for her to hurry. She pounds the side of the boat to show them she is on her way. She looked down at the gift from Steros pleased.
Her mechanical dog; Little Ambrose.
Figurine of Wondrous Power (Onyx Dog) Wondrous Item, rare A figurine of wondrous power is a statuette of a beast small enough to fit in a pocket. If you use an action to speak the command word and throw the figurine to a point on the ground within 60 feet of you, the figurine becomes a living creature. If the space where the creature would appear is occupied by other creatures or objects, or if there isn't enough space for the creature, the figurine doesn't become a creature. The creature is friendly to you and your companions. It understands your languages and obeys your spoken commands. If you issue no commands, the creature defends itself but takes no other actions. The creature exists for a duration specific to each figurine. At the end of the duration, the creature reverts to its figurine form. It reverts to a figurine early if it drops to 0 hit points or if you use an action to speak the command word again while touching it. When the creature becomes a figurine again, its property can't be used again until a certain amount of time has passed, as specified in the figurine's description. Onyx Dog. This onyx statuette of a dog can become a mastiff for up to 6 hours. The mastiff has an Intelligence of 8 and can speak Common. It also has darkvision out to a range of 60 feet and can see invisible creatures and objects within that range. Once it has been used, it can't be used again until 7 days have passed. She rushes away and passing a group of her crew trained under her watch, calls them to follow in one of the other other rowboats. She does a flip into the the water and swims at speed after the boat, Ambrose stuck into her belt. When she reaches the boat she excitedly shows it to Theo.
They reach the island and face the bodyguards.
“I’ll count to five”
One. And they attack. Xan and Helikaon rush the cave. They seem to be getting the better of things. Moxena battle the medusa, others take on the shambling mound and it seems to be going their way until a swoop comes from above. The manticor rips into the battle and grab two of their crew.
They head into the cave as she sees her crew in its grasp.
