Bellsfeit

4137-12-23

"...The beginning of the end was heralded with a bell. Lady Ira, in her wisdom, hushed a message to her wife. The Dreaming Lady, Serien, she slipped beneath the cover of night and into the long mountain shadow, where she whispered into the ear of Lord Gao-Yan. He took the day to craft a bell and clutched it within his talons as he took flight, a race to the ocean bluffs where he passed it off to Ko. Ko, who honors his sister, was to raise it to the sun. He found instead Lord Avaksha cut down the middle, the dusk and the dawn, and Lady Kiyam kneeling at his side. In his stead, Lady Kiyam took up the bell and tolled its sound across the sky, land, and sea, and that was when those of us beneath their celestial realm knew that victory was near"

Bellsfeit

A week long holiday honoring the final days of the Hollow Wars, and the gods who heralded its end. Each day represents a different god and tradition, as well as that which is being celebrated or mourned. Each celebration takes place either in the day time or at night, beginning with the Day of Fury and ending with the Night of Honor:

The Day of Fury. The first day of Bellsfeit, which honors Ko. It is a day to remember the terror of the demons which sought to end this world, and the righteous fury of the Averans who defended their lives and their home. This day is celebrated with physical competition and re-enactments of great battles.

The Night of Perseverance. The second night of Bellsfeit, which honors Serien. Through this night, from sundown to sunrise, those who observe will sit awake through the night. It is traditional to fast, in recognition of the sacrifice of god and mortal alike. This is a night of pondering and reflection.

The Day of Triumph. The third day of Bellsfeit, which honors Avaksha. This is a day of celebration of Averus' victory over the Abyss. There is feasting, dancing, games are played, and shikarists and especially bladesingers will frequently demonstrate their ability to the crowd with choreographed spars. This is largely considered the high point of the holiday.

The Night of Mourning. The fourth night of Bellsfeit, which honors Gao-Yan. As named, this is a night for which the soldiers and victims of the Hollow Wars are given remembrance and prayer. It is frequently a night to remember one's own lost loved ones, especially those who fell in battle or were victims of violence. Shikar sects and military organizations will use this as a night to honor their fallen.

The Day of Respite. The fifth day of Bellsfeit, which honors Kiyam. It is a day of rest, in which no work save for the most crucial is performed. On this day, Averans relax and are encouraged to focus on the care and love of oneself.

The Night of Honor. The sixth and final night of Bellsfeit, which honors Ira. This night is heralded with the ringing of bells in honor of her rallying cry. As the last night of the holiday and the year, this is again a time of celebration. It is a more formal holiday, with temple services to give offerings and prayers to the gods. The night has come to include a parade of floats. Bladesingers are the highlight of this event, with several from representing sects being chosen to perform. Costumed dances and music follow the procession as casters create magical displays. The prominent shikar sects of an area may be invited into their region's parade.
