The Hollow Wars

A cataclysmic invasion of the Material Plane by The Abyss. Lead by the god End and their right-hand, Dhaos, the Hollow Wars consisted of over one hundred years of bloodshed and conflict.

During this time, demons overran the world, leaving no place unscathed. It was a near-apocalyptic event, earth sky and sea awash in blood. From this time rose the greatest heroes, names revered millennia after their deaths. Gods of all pantheons aligned to spare their world. They named champions and built weapons to bestow upon the earth, intervening as deeply as they could without wreaking further destruction. Some overstepped their bounds, as is the case of Ko's Folly.

Individual champions were only the pinpoint strikes in these wars. Nations and their armies devised great methods of destruction. As much as these kept the endless forces of the Abyss at bay, they brought ruin to those who built them as well. Even after the war's end, the world and especially Asuvia was plagued by these creations.

The Aftermath

Though the world was spared its end, the aftermath had left it unstable. Some landscapes were irreversibly changed, creating Pervasive Zones and The Northern Wastes of Asuvia. The Spirit Realm was formed by Serien, who stabilized a growing rift between planes lest it consume the Material, and the restless souls that dwelled there.

Mass trauma and a prevalence of weapons of mass destruction left the survivors shaken and paranoid, and those in power began to turn these weapons upon the very people they were built to save.

In the annihilation that followed, the gods at last intervened. They issued a warning to the mortals below, and as promised, struck down the first god of magic. Arcane magic failed, bringing about a new catastrophe. Civilizations were forced to rebuild from the ashes. Others dissolved utterly.

With the formation of the weave, and the rebirth of magic into the god Jossian, a new age had begun.
