Shao Jianyu

This character is dead.

The First Bladesinger

Shao Jianyu developed the art of bladesinging, popularizing the culture of Unknown that would characterize not only Quyani civilization, but the majority of Asuvia.

Initially, Jianyu shared credit for the art with his fellow disciples: Kong Qiaolian, who would be named the first Shikara of Quyan, and Tao Shifeng. Ultimately, as revealed by Shifeng, the contributions of Shifeng and Qiaolian were minimal, and accepting such a claim was dishonest. Jianyu received equal praise and criticism for this. Some were endeared by his efforts to grant his fellows honor and acclaim. Others resented the undue credit, and Qiaolian's promotion under false pretenses.

Unlike Qiaolian, Jianyu maintained a more humble lifestyle. He accepted disciples, forming his Clan in the west of Quyan. Over the centuries, Jianyu changed his family name to Shouwei, meaning "Guardian." He spoke extensively on the duties of bladesingers to their people, and the necessity of shikar in a world nearly overrun by monsters. However, Jianyu's own actions were minimal, acting more as a scholar and a teacher than a true shikarist.
