Originally called the 32nd Foot Company, it was formed six months prior to The Fall meant to replace the lost Cursed Sixteenth. Formed entirely of new recruits it was given over to Lieutenant Strass Storkin in order to whip it into shape. There are few worse ways in which to first test a unit in combat than The Fall, but as the 32nd stood tall in defence of the North Gate a legend was born. The few survivors would tell tales of them fighting off Ynfernael even as the walls they stood on cracked and crumbled. It is there, that through their incredible valour that the 32nd earned their name, the North Gate Company. It is said, that as the final assault began Lieutenant Strass Storkin bellowed from atop the gate "If I must perish, I would rather be ashes than dust! Who is with me?", and as his men answered his call, so did the enemy, fulfilling their wish in a bloody dance of fire and death.
Having left no survivors the short lived unit became a legend. To this day many soldiers, when facing impossible odds but not willing to surrender, will invoke the words "Better Ashes than Dust.".
