After the Fall

Centuries ago almost all civilised lands were part of The Empire, while far from perfect, often beset by strife and war, it prospered and so did its mortal inhabitants. Then, as the era began to turn darkness started to seep into the world. Terrors like the Fiend of Vryzilm and Ullaylth began to plague the land more and more. While this led to less strife amongst the peoples of The Empire, after all little helps unity as much as an external threat, it slowly eroded the edges of civilisation. Then The Fall came. As the veil thinned demonic armies invaded The Empire spreading death and destruction on a scale unthinkable prior. As their greatest host struck The Citadel, with many smaller ones striking other cities across The Empire, it fought the greatest heroes of the age, and those heroes were not enough. The Citadel fell and with it The Empire. Yet, the victory was not without cost and the price the invaders paid too much. While the war dragged out for another three decades eventually, at the Battle of the Silvery Gates the last major remnant of the invasion was defeated, the people triumphed.

And yet, they were now amongst but ruins of the previous age, many wonders lost forever. The most untouched region of what once was The Empire, the Westlands, was now divided between countless lords and rulers. As they slowly reclaimed much of the land lost during what is now known as the False Peace, spreading across the land in hope of reclaiming old glories, they forget to pay heed to the past. With the return of the Fiend of Vryzilm, and subsequent wars and destruction, all the lands east of the Morning Mountains, the eastern border of the Westlands, was once again lost. Eventually, with the defeat of Arlak the Despoiler at the hands of Gwayne Stoutheart, peace seems to have once again returned to the world.

It has now been almost a century since that time, while humans once again set their eyes on the unclaimed lands to the east, the longer lived races are wary of yet another False Peace
