Scotty, was born into an average family in an average suburb with average parents and siblings who did average every day things. There really wasn't much to complain about during his childhood. He was well taken care of, had good family and friends, and he even had a very average girlfriend who loved spending time with him doing average every day things too! Scotty could not have grown up in better circumstances really... well at least according to everyone in his community. To them he had the perfect boring life with a very average future ahead of him.
Scotty's father was an engineer and so naturally Scotty, who looks up to his very average father, also wanted to be an engineer. He also was born with a tech savvy mind and complex concepts came easy to him even at very young age. What's the saying, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." From a very young age, Scotty loved reading about ancient advanced technologies so beyond his communities comprehensive thought even his father barely understood how any of those technologies work. Scotty wanted to obtain them, study them, and maybe even use them to develop new technologies. This was his dream as a child. But as expected, Scotty settled into a very average job working at his fathers engineering company who have been building average suburban infrastructures for decades. So long that innovation would die if it found itself on the grounds of this engineering firm. Scotty settled, proposed to very average girlfriend and decided to have very average children. Again, Scotty has nothing to complain about. He has the perfect life, perfect career, and perfect family. "Perfectly average!" as his Brother Pippin would say.
As time went on, Scotty had less time on his hands to dream and read about these ancient technologies. Besides he was too average to voyage for that stuff, he thought. Several more years go by and Scotty feels a void like a super massive black hole just sucking the joy from even the most perfectly average everyday tasks he used to enjoy. While waiting on a very average bus he saw a very average TV employment opportunity advertisement for a technology and communications company called Samsung Corp. At first Scotty stared with a blank stare at the TV and continued to have very average thoughts. Near the end of the commercial they hooked their viewers with their monotone catch phrase, "Experience the Universe." At first, Scotty really didn't think much of Samsung corp. but then he realized he heard that catch phrase before in the magazines he used to read as a kid. Scotty had a full fledged very unaverage midlife crisis. He quit his job and submitted his application to join Samsung Corp. even though he knew he was taking a substantial pay cut. He was finally going to be a technoanthropologist and discover new and exciting technologies. As you can imagine, when he told his very average family this caused a lot of disruption. So much so that his wife decided to leave and find someone more average to raise her kids. Scotty was very sad at first but he had gone to far to turn back to averageville now. He needed this since he was a kid. It was has passion. It was what he born for he knew it. Instantly the black hole inside him began to feel not so supermassive anymore.
Scotty moved to be closer to work. With his substantial pay decrease, he moved into a very "affordable" studio apartment. Almost everything leaked and he heard tiny animal neighbors in the walls every night scratching away at the crumbs from his pizza delivery. Even still, in this miserable new place with no loved ones around him he felt uplifted with more joy than he could have ever imagined. He was no longer average. He was the most unaverage person he knew and that alone filled him with excitement! And tomorrow he starts his first day of orientation!
Scotty goes to orientation and it is the most average most boring orientation you could ever imagine! Filled with disappointment, Scotty began having doubts about his unaverage midlife crisis. "What a Moron!", he said to himself. "You had it all, EVERYTHING!!!", "STUPID, STUPID, STUPID" cried Scotty. He took a deep breath and thought to himself, "Maybe it's just boring because it has to be!" "They obviously aren't going to give this job to just anyone with a passionate dream." Scotty kept showing up to Samsung Corp. and passed all of the qualifying exams. He thought he was going to be an adventurer exploring the stars with lots of freedom to discover new technologies but the reality was he was joining a data mining contracting company who bids data and technology for profit and his pay was dependent on him handing over any technology he finds. Again faced with the brutal reality that even if he does discover ancient technologies, he is supposed to instantly hand them over to a bureaucracy so he could maintain his dinghy life in his tiny studio feeding his tiny neighbors in the wall. Little did Scotty know that he was about to embark on one of the most dangerous adventures of his life and discover some of the most power ancient alien technology.
