Human

+2 to any one Attribute HP 4

To some of the species in the Free March, humans are a quick-spreading infestation that seems to grow out of every nook and cranny of the galaxy. To the League of Worlds, humans are just another primitive species no one cares to remember unless they want someone expendable to do their dirty work for them.

Culture

Humans are somewhat newcomers into Galactic Society, a Third Generation Species the League of Worlds expected to go extinct decades past. Several centuries ago the Sol System was put on the watch list by the League, the system branded a Native Reservation to protect its primitive species from discovering they were not alone. Experience told that civilizations with strong religious aspects or extreme sociopolitical division tended to not survive contact with far more advanced species, and Humankind had both. Discovery came by accident during one of Earth’s many national conflicts, the one called the Second Cold War. Against all odds humans managed to survive the decades of social and economic chaos following Revelation Day and the sudden influx of advanced technology by Niterian traders. A little more than 300 years later, humans are still split into dozens of national governments and other sovereign powers, and quickly spreading throughout the Milky Way. Earth is not the only human-inhabited world anymore, but remains by far the most populated, with almost 10 billion individuals, most of which seek means to escape and find new opportunities elsewhere. Humans are considered second-class citizens of the Galaxy, despised by many more advanced civilizations as a virus that spreads faster than anyone can control, bringing trouble with it.

Physical Description

Humans range in height from 5 to 7 foot tall, with those born outside Earth tending to be taller and leaner. Eye color, skin color, hair color and style vary as much as it did in the early 21st century, and possibly more as cosmetic retrovirii are introduced into the market at reasonable prices, allowing for a wide range of changes, including pink hair, slit eyes and bioluminescent skin.

Humans have a wide range of genders, with more or less acceptance depending on their nation of origin, but require genetic material from a male and a female to procreate. Recent advances in genetic engineering may soon change this fact, as society has for long demanded a solution.

Relations

Humans are the new kids on the block, but one that came in troves, loud and drawing unwanted attention, like a group of hormone-filled adolescents in a museum.

To the League of Worlds, humans are a nuisance better ignored. Many argue about who is to blame for the fact the gates of the Galaxy were opened to them, and how the incident should have been handled. To Third Generation members, humans are cheap tools that can be useful if used correctly.

Humans are seen as a rising star in the Free March, easy to anger, but also easy to befriend. Most human governments hold alliances and pacts of some kind with Free March governments.

Still, humans are seen as too nosey and egocentric by the majority of species, the kind of people who would come over uninvited and end up sleeping on your couch for months if you were not careful.

Adventurers

With Earth overpopulated and low on resources, and most of the other worlds under human control little more than skyless steel domes, humans tend to seek adventure more often than other Free March species. Humans can be found almost everywhere on this side of the Galaxy, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they were found on the other side too.

Humans easily adapt to their new environments- or force those environments to adapt to them -, and so can easily be of any classes. Humans are not naturally psychic, though, which means that Mystics and Solarians are very rare and, when existent, the result of intrusive genetic intervention.

Names

Human names usually follow a two or three word format, composed of a first name and followed by one or two family names, often referring to the individual’s parents. Due to Humankind’s split culture, variations in this format exist, going as far as having individuals with six or even ten names, including a composite name and the family names of important ancestors. Examples include Pedro Roberto, John Michael Gallager, Magda Levy-Rao, Mika Moeke and Zhao Yan.
