- The party continued their fight against the ever-increasing pack of wolves while during this, a mist rolled in and Gust's name was called out from beyond. He was beckoned into the fog by a small shiny object. Following his animal instinct, he pursued the object until the fog consumed him, and he disappeared into it entirely. After gathering some of Gusts belongings and searching for a short time, the group had no choice but to push on without him.
- After 4 hours of walking, they reached a giant set of gates with flanking statues. Approaching the gates led to them opening automatically for the party. After another 3 hours of walking, they finally reached the crest of a hill, showing them their first sight of the valley below. A small village sat in a river basin with a towering cliff and overlooking castle stood all before them.
- Entering the Village of Barovia, the party found themselves in a wet and dreary locale. They soon encountered a kind woman called Granny who helped give the group direction as well as sell them some of her delicious smelling pastries. She explains to the party that she made these pastries to help those that wanted it, have the sweetest of dreams and help escape the dire situation around them. She also informs the party some more about the nature of the Mists and how they are, most likely, trapped here forever.
- The group then headed to the Blood of the Vine Tavern, but not before spotting a raven closely watching the group. Inside the tavern they met a trio of brightly colored Vistani, a dour bartender, and Ismark, the son of the recently deceased town Burgomaster. After buying them a round of drinks and having some conversation, Wagner walks into the tavern. Some more conversation led to Ismark confessing his needed help from the group to carry his father's coffin for burial tomorrow, as well as help with the funeral processions. He offered them 20gp as well as housing at his estate in return. The group then departs together for Ismark's estate house.
- Once there, they noticed scratch marks and boarded windows on the house itself. After going inside, Carýll enjoys a cigar with Ismark while he asks them for one more favor. To help escort his sister Ireena to safe haven, perhaps the town of Vallaki. Ismark understand the group's hesitance and offers what rewards he can after he gets his affairs in order as the next town Burgomaster. The group meets Ireena briefly, and Ismark asks Kirin and Wagner to help lead the conversation tomorrow with Father Donavich. He explains that the Father is in a delicate emotional state after losing his son to Strahd himself about a year back. The group gets ready for bed and just before turning in, a sharp, rapid set of knocks rings out from the front door.
