Falklands-class patrol airships are metal-clad vessels used in an offensive/scouting role. Deck armour is sufficient to stop up to 20mm rounds at combat range and angle. Segmented gas compartments are designed as such that a few penetrating hits will not force down the airship. Its single engine, typically a high performance turbocharged propeller engine like the Bristol Centaurus, can propel the vehicle at up to 30 knots. Radar and reconnaissance systems are commonly installed. Operating in airship, airplane and even ground altitude is no problem. Armament typically consists of machineguns and autocannons, accompanying a front-firing rifled cannon. The most common configuration features broadside dual 20mm Hispano autocannons and one forward facing 76.2mm QF 12-pounder rifled gun with up to one ton of exterior ordnance. Falklands-class airships are the most common combat-oriented type encountered in airship space due to their exceptional simplicity and cost. Pirates specially love this type of vessel.
