The Thompson is an iconic weapon. Though used to great effect by the Allies during World War II, it is vastly more infamous as the signature weapon of America's interwar gangsters. The M1923 Thompson was an experimental variant of said submachinegun, repurposed as a squad automatic weapon for the U.S. Army, though it was unsuccessful (largely thanks to its use of a propietary .45 Remington-Thompson cartridge which no other weapon used at the time). Later variants were chambered in more common cartridges, such as 9mm Parabellum and .45 ACP, gaining a customer base abroad primarily with private security and sailors. It differentiates itself from other variants by the presence of a smoothened heavy barrel apt for continuous automatic fire, a machinegun bipod, and a bayonet lug.
