Klongen are large herbivorous mammals, distantly related to the Red Kangaroo. They walk, trot, hop and gallop on their four strong legs, possess prominent ears and are short-haired. As one might notice, they possess four gaits, making riding slightly more complicated. They were domesticated during the Civilised Age and have served as draft animals, means of transport, companions, cattle or as cavalry since then. As with their Old World counterpart (the Horse), klongen have been artificially bred for a number of roles. Some breeds are better for pulling loads, others can cross the vast Outback on little water, and some can charge into danger like a mad beast. One major advantage of klongen over horses is that they are extremely well adapted to Oceanyka's climate and ecosystem. However, their tendency to violently hop or box like a kangaroo is well known, and novice riders should beware being thrown off. Perhaps no domestic animal is as culturally important to Oceanyka as the klongen.
