Urban Superculture

Superculture

Following the destruction of Oceanyka's urban centres in the Continental Collapse, its cities were largely rebuilt modelled after Europe's, primarily those in Great Britain. Most urban dwellers are part of the working class, eking out a living from salaried work in Oceanyka's factories, stores and other centres of labour. The petite-bourgeoise's daily life is not significantly different from their lower income neighbours, so culturally they can be categorised as part of the same urbanite group. At least in Oceanyka, labour movements are particularly popular amongst the city's working class, so syndicates and unions already had a significant base of support before the Oceanykan Revolution. However, so are gangs and mafias, which control entire neighbourhoods and may even enforce commercial monopolies. Oceanykan city-dwellers are particularly renowned for their thriftiness and creativity, able to solve any problem with minimum resources. There also exists access to education, even if it is somewhat limited in the country's slums and ghettos. Most people in the city are less religious and have a closer contact with foreign cultures.
