The M113 Armoured Personnel Carrier is a versatile, rugged and all-terrain American APC developed by the FMC Corporation in the late 1950s. It is a fully tracked vehicle that can carry up to 11-15 passengers, besides the driver and commander. It has a top speed of 67 km/h and a range of up to 480 km on a single tank of fuel. The far more common M113A1 variant is powered by a diesel engine and is capable of fording water up to a metre deep. This vehicle was first deployed in 1961 to replace the older M59 APCs in US Army Europe. It was also sent to The Imperial Domain of Indochina in 1962 to support the South Vietnamese army against the Viet Cong. The M113 proved to be effective in breaking through the dense jungle and attacking enemy positions. It was also used as an anti-tank, anti-aircraft, and anti-materiel vehicle by mounting various weapons on it, such as the M2 Browning machine gun, the Alvis Saladin turret, or the TOW missile launcher.
