The Hanyang 88 is a Chinese bolt-action rifle derived from the Gewehr 88 and produced by the Qing Empire, later the Republic of China. Unlike later modifications to the Gewehr 88, the Hanyang 88 cannot fire 7.92x57mm Mauser, and must always be loaded with the more primitive Patrone 88 version of this round. These weapons were produced well into World War II despite their obsolescence. A great number of them arrived to Oceanykan shores during the 1950s; regular shooters are ill-advised to use them unless very desperate, as running modern 8mm Mauser on them risks rapid and violent disassembly.
