The Republic F-105 Thunderchief is an American supersonic fighter-bomber. It was originally designed as a low-altitude, high-speed nuclear attacker, but its impressive characteristics and the diminishing probability of all-out nuclear war repurposed it for a number of duties. Its Pratt & Whitney J75 turbojet engine could throw it at up to 2,240 km/h or Mach 2, though it normally stayed below this speed. As for armament, the F-105 had an M61 Vulcan autocannon and could carry up to 6,400kg of ordnance in bombs, missiles, rockets and fuel drop tanks, either in its various hardpoints or within its small bomb bay. It is a staple of American aerial operations in the Vietnam War, being largely used as a high-speed bomber, though it has taken grievous casualties in this conflict. Parts from downed F-105s have reportedly been used to assemble new "Frankenstein" aircraft in Oceanyka.
