The Thirsty Sailor
This infamous dive faces the Ship's Prow Inn across the intersection of Fish and Ship Streets. It is on the east, whereas the Prow commands the west side.
This ugly, poorly-built tavern began as fieldstone with wooden upper levels, but many fires and wild brawls have changed its face as hasty patches have been made with more vigor than skill over the burn-scarred, boarded-over walls. Not a window remains at street level and those higher up look more like trapdoors.
The interior matchesβand fits!βthe mental stereotype many have of a sailor's drinking hole: a filthy, lawless, ongoing drunken brawl where the only patrons who aren't fighting, cursing, or roaring bawdy songs are those who have already passed out. Its dimly-lit and smoky atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for shady deals if one is willing to risk it.
Waterdeep's sex workers have a comprehensive ban on the place.
The place does, however, have its charms. The Sailor is known throughout the city as the place to go for large wagers during gladiatorial championships and other such events. Despite its general lawlessness, the tavern is typically staffed by exceptionally well-armed and skilled guards (and more than one wizard) to ensure the integrity and security of the wagers. The Thirsty Sailor also provides access to the Monster Pit.
