Measurement of time, approximately one hour. Owing to a quirk of astrophysics, the sun seems to stand still for an hour at a time, and then suddenly shifts through the sky in one hour intervals. This causes the shadows to mark out the hours of the day with strange, sudden leaps. This is explained by the fact that a smaller, denser star has a very tight 'pirouetting' orbit with the sun. The discovery of this duality begat the the Alsuriean Solar Schism.
